Michael Grogan
CEO – FGM Consultants

Michael started in the meat industry in 1978 and has been involved in all aspects of the industry for the past 36years. Michael is the Director of FGM Consultants and is also one of the Principles of Food Safety Operations who deliver Nationally Accredited Training to the Australian Food, Meat & Hospitality Industries and Eville & Jones Food Safety Operations the providers of third party meat inspection. Over the past 16 years they have trained in excess of 5500 people across many states within Australia.

Prior to commencing FGM Consultants in 1998, Michael worked for Aus-Meat and the Australian Meat & Livestock Corporation (AMLC) holding such positions as Quality Auditor as well as heading the AMLC office in Korea in 1990.

Michael holds many meat processing accreditations as well as being registered with Exemplar Global (previously the Quality Society of Australasia) as a Lead Food Safety Auditor in Livestock and Slaughtering / Boning Streams as well as Auditor Status in Quality Systems Certificate No. 12338 further he still provides Third Party Aus-Meat Auditing services to a large abattoir in Queensland. 

Michael runs a small cattle property where he lives and sits on the Baw Baw Business Advisory Board, Boy’s from the Bush Board (Indigenous Australian Training & Advisory Role), Baw Baw Big Blokes President and has completed past roles on the Gippsland Area Consultative Committee and the Gippsland Food Processors Group.

Roy Simpkin
Senior Trainer

Roy is a NZ Trade Qualified Retail Butcher who started as a butcher’s apprentice in 1984. After transitioning to the abattoir and export industry, he moved to Queensland where he operated a successful retail butcher shop in Bundaberg.

In 2008 Roy became a trainer and assessor in Queensland and spent 10 years ‘giving back’ to the industry through mentoring and training young trainees and apprentices through rural and regional Queensland.

In 2019, Roy was looking to widen his scope of meat industry training.  After obtaining a Diploma in Meat Processing, Roy was given the opportunity to join us here at FGM, and has been a fantastic asset of our team ever since.

Roy is now training and assessing across numerous Qualifications from the AMP Package; Certificate II, III & IV level. As well our Game Harvest Skill Set.

Also in 2019, Roy became a Mintrac registered Overseas Worker Assessor. Assessing skilled foreign Meat Workers in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed by the Commonwealth Government.

Vanessa Grogan – Administration Manager

Vanessa, a seasoned professional who has dedicated seven years of her career to FGM Consultants, where she serves as an Administration Manager. With a wealth of experience and knowledge acquired across diverse industries, Vanessa brings a unique perspective to her role, enriching the business with her expertise.

A proud resident of the Gippsland region, Vanessa not only contributes to the professional landscape but also calls it home, residing here with her  family. Her deep connection to the local community fuels her commitment to excellence in her work, as she strives to make a positive impact both professionally and personally.

With her unwavering dedication and strong leadership skills, Vanessa plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of FGM Consultants, driving efficiency and fostering a culture of collaboration. Her passion for her work and her community make her an invaluable asset to both her colleagues and the region she proudly calls home.

Rolph Smith – Senior Trainer

Meet Rolph Smith, our  Senior Trainer with over 15 years of invaluable experience in food and meat safety training. Rolph’s expertise lies in the meticulous realm of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and risk management within the dynamic Meat Industry. With a passion for ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance, Rolph brings a wealth of knowledge and practical insights to his training sessions.
